Looking for a fun, reasonably priced language school, in a happening location filled with Andalusian magic? If so, Escuela de Lengua Granada could be a great choice for you. With young, degree-qualified, native Spanish teachers, recognition by the Swedish CSN academic aid board, and an ideal location in Granada’s historic Albayzin quarter, close to culture and nightlife, here you can really enjoy every aspect of spending time in Spain, whilst learning the language.
The school itself is set in a traditional, central Granada house, only 5 minutes from the Alhambra castle. The building is renovated and fitted with all modern comforts, including free WiFi, a computer lab, and a library of books and audio-visual materials that you can borrow for free. The school’s 2nd and 3rd floors have self-contained apartments available for students to rent; these are fully fitted with kitchenware, washing machines, TV’s and WiFi. Escuela de Lengua Granada is close to Calle Elvira with plenty of tapas bars, pubs and fun nightlife venues, as well as typical Spanish and Moorish shops.
The school’s courses are based on participation and communication. Every single student is encouraged to join in a fun, relaxed learning experience, designed to engage you and get you speaking and understanding Spanish right away. The number of students per class can be as low as 2, and goes up to a maximum of 8, so you’ll get focused attention from your teachers.
Courses are available from 1 weeks to 12 months, from beginner to proficiency level, and the Intensive Course consists of 20 weekly 45-minute lessons, from Monday to Friday. There is a selection of specialist courses, like Spanish with Flamenco or Spanish Teacher Training, and you can also add One-to-One lessons to your curriculum. For specialist course dates and prices, consult UniSpain.
Every week, the school organises daily after-class activities to give you a chance to practice your language skills. These include tapas tasting evenings, cultural excursions and sightseeing, including the Alhambra castle and Granada walks, as well as Spanish cinema and flamenco evenings. The events and activities are organised for free, and students only have to pay for transport, food or entrance tickets where applicable. Weekend trips are also arranged to Seville and Cordoba, Granada’s beaches, the Sierra Nevada nature park and ski resort, and other nearby sites and attractions.
Granada is a great place to visit from a cultural point of view, because the city has a great importance in Spanish history - many impressive architectural sites from the Moorish and Renaissance eras will attest to this. The old city’s narrow, cobbled streets, hidden Flamenco bars and the wonderful Granada tradition of getting a free tapa with your drink, will charm you and allow you to experience real Spanish life. Granada is also one of Spain’s cheaper cities, so this is a good destination for budget-conscious students.
Granada has a small international airport with weekly flights from all main European cities, or you can fly to Madrid and catch a train to Granada. Alternatively, you can also fly to Malaga airport and take an approximately 2.5-hour bus journey to Granada’s main bus depot.
