People who like a big city atmosphere will love Madrid. In Madrid, there is always something happening (a big concert, international sport matches, street parades, etc.). Additionally, Madrid is a very cosmopolitan city with people from all over the world and thousands of students who come here to study each year. As Spain's capital, Madrid is not like other Spanish towns and can be a bit intimidating for students who are not used to a big (and noisy) city. Although this might be the first impression, visitors normally change their minds about the city after having experienced the nightlife and once they have got to know the place and the people living here better. Before planning your trip to Madrid we recommend that you take into consideration that from June to August the average temperature is about 40ºC (105ºF).
Facts: Madrid is the capital of Spain and lies in the center of the Iberian Peninsula 646 metres above sea level. It has a population of 3 million inhabitants and the climate varies from very warm and dry in the summer to rainy (and sometimes with snow) in the winter. The city has traditionally been the connecting point between all parts of Spain. This means that every part of Spain is within a relatively easy reach from Madrid. It is possible to go for a weekend trip to Bilbao in the North or to the beach in Andalucia in the south, both within approx. 5 hours by bus. Further information about Madrid: Madrid Information
